What kind of proposal would Speck give? Well thought out? Impulsive? Is the ring a ruby?

Impulsive in the way that she doesn't plan anything overtly romantic. It's more of a "she just goes up to him and gives a very nervous presentation on why they should get married" thing. The only reason Infinite takes it seriously is because she's incredibly nervous about it. Speck doesn't get nervous often. She writes the speech in her head and fumbles it in front of him and it's the most awkward thing she's ever done, but Infinite finds it endearing.

And while it does have a Ruby, instead of a traditional ring, she offers an earring. They get another earring in place of a wedding ring.

The Gift

a WIP i just haven't had the energy to finish (because it honestly needs redone from scratch) but I worked too hard on it to never share. also my first time doing a "lineless" artstyle

Essentially an excuse to draw Speck in a striped suit and Infinite in a dress. Some sort of AU where the Phantom Ruby shatters and Speck carves one of the shards into a pendant for Infinite to wear.

Random Phantom Static thoughts to make up for the lost infinite post. Pet/Nicknames: Infinite doesn't often use Speck's name. When she first joins the Eggman Empire, they all refer to her as "The Generator." Once they get closer he starts calling her "Thunder." Initially it was meant to insult her as a lightning user (and because she's generally loud) but he grew fond of it and Speck never minded it. Speck refers to Infinite as "Boss" (and Eggman as "Big Boss") until around the end of the war. When the war ends and she no longer works under him, she rarely calls him anything but his name. They also very rarely call each other sweetheart once they get together. Who fell first: Speck recognized her feelings first, before the war ended. She was aware of the power imbalance between them (the same one she liked to challenge anyways) and never thought Infinite would consider her worthy of being a friend, let alone anything more. But Infinite became obsessive long before then. He considered it a form of loathing before anything else, and was obsessed with making sure Speck knew her place. Which conveniently meant checking up on her regularly and letting her get away with challenging him just to give her a "false sense of security." In reality they both just enjoy bickering with each other. The obsession mellows out once he loses his connection to the Phantom Ruby, but the feelings behind it still linger.

Speck wasn't meant as a foil to Infinite, but as her character has developed, so has the way they interact.

During the events of Sonic Forces, Infinite is even-tempered. Arrogant, yes, but not one who loses his cool. His breakdown in Episode Shadow was mostly due to losing everything, but also a precursor to his rebirth and newfound sense of power. Since fusing with the Phantom Ruby, he sees himself as a god and carries himself accordingly. In-game, he doesn't fully lose himself until the very end, when he's fully defeated and robbed of his dignity. There are moments where tiny cracks in his composure form, but they're quickly brushed off and barely perceptible. His stability is tied to his sense of control.

Speck serves to challenge that control. Where Infinite revels in others' fear, Speck isn't scared of him. When he laments the lack of a real challenge, she stands up and refuses to back down. Though she swore loyalty to the Eggman Empire, Speck hadn't sworn loyalty to Infinite. If Eggman were to turn her against him, she would fight, and they both know it. But until then, Eggman insists on keeping her around, and Infinite can do nothing about it.

I think it's fine for Infinite to have it easy during the war. From the Resistance's perspective, he's a powerful being who can change the tides of battle with the snap of his fingers. From his perspective, everything comes so easy to him that he finds the world boring again. It's a perspective that's possible to write from, but it's more fun when there's just a bit more external friction.

So Infinite gets what he wants from the war, but he can't seem to get rid of one thorn in his side, someone who ever-so-slightly challenges the sense of power he has over the world and himself. He can't help but respect Speck for as much as he resents her. She's different. He can't control her. And as much as he hates to admit it, he likes having her as a challenge. It keeps the world from being too boring.
